Inmate earnings books, 1913-1933 (bulk 1913-1914, 1921-1924, 1929-1933).

These ledgers document the monthly earnings of individual prisoners as compensation for work performed within the penitentiary or as contract labor. Included are prisoner name, number, and earnings. One ledger (1913-June, 1914) lists new prisoners by number as they are received. Included are entries for gender, race, county, number of work days per month, and fines levied against the prisoner's account. In 1921, the format of these ledgers changed to permit the daily tabulation of individual prisoner earnings within each work area. These include daily attendance and rate per day.
